I just read a nice article on the Akron Beacon Journal from Mike Rasor. He featured Donaldson Resources. They are a one person web design company run by Sandra Donaldson. You can read the article here:

I like Sandra’s philosophy for several reasons:
- She refuses to setup background music on a person’s web site.
- She refuses to make a Flash movie front page.
- She charges between $950 and $5,000 for a web site.
Those are the outside reasons I like Sandra. Here are the reasons why I like those characteristics.
- It’s gutsy to stand up to a client expecially when you are a one person shop.
- It’s hard to turn down money. Who can’t use more money?
- These features described above clearly form her positioning statement. I like that simply because she has a positioning statement. Most large companies don’t have a positioning statement.
- The is indicative of the new “flat” world. We’re going to see a lot more Sandras in the world. The new economy lets a one person shop compete globally and be choosey about who they select as clients.
- I like Sandra’s design. Function is the master and Form is the slave. That’s the way it should be but usually isn’t.
- She likes content… so do visitors and search engines.
- She says she has a “well rounded understanding of web marketing.” I agree. She makes a good use of key phrases and content. The only thing I would like to see is a CSS-based drop down navigation… or better yet, no drop down at all.
- Sandra is symbolic of the new economy and she’s good at what she does.
- As either a client or a competitor, you can’t ignor Sandra. She’s as viable as anyone else in her craft.
If you’ve got a small budget… heck, if you’ve got a big budget, talk to Sandra.
