This quote from "Dorothy Day: Dissenting Voice of the American Century" by John Loughery, Blythe Randolph resonated with me in this morning's readings:

And quite frankly it makes me think of me.
How much louder do people like me need to yell before you hear us?
You say you are with us but then you give us Joe Biden. You didn't come out to vote for Bernie Sanders.
I know my liberal friends hate when I say this but as much as you guys love to shit on Trump supporters, THEY GOT THEIR OUTSIDER IN! So who really is the bigger piece of shit? You or them?
I know you'll mutter some bullshit like "but I don't know what to do, Sage." So let me spell it out:
ALL POLITICS IS LOCAL
Stop obsessing over things you can't change today. You didn't get Bernie in. You fucked that up. So now get local.
City Council is a part time job. RUN FOR IT.
You get a phone, sweet health insurance, more money than the median income in Akron. And all you really need to do is come vote on shit on Monday nights. That's where you'll change the city into the city that actually cares about its people. Cuz right now the people sitting in that horseshoe are just voting for the big corporations.
The next election for Akron mayor and city council is going to be in May of 2023. Start your campaign now.
And if you can't imagine being in office, which is just a lame excuse in my opinion for complacency and apathy, then find a friend who will run and build their campaign for them.
Your best bet in Akron is to run as a Democrat (most of the sheep in Akron just vote for the person with a D next to their name). Doing this will also put your first election in May of 2023. It's the primary.
That's good because you need far less votes because almost no one comes out to vote in the primary... Which in a Democrat city like Akron, the primary is the only election that matters. A Republican won't win in Akron and the Republican party won't help you. They have back room deals with the Democrats to give their friends some juicy contracts.
I won't stop yelling and swearing. But unless you get your shit together it doesn't matter what I do. THEY WIN.
There are many things that piss me off about liberals. They are arrogant. They are condescending. They are elitist. They are hypocritical. They are judgemental while saying they are tolerant. And they are whiney. Oh so whiney.
But you're my team. Most of what you believe in is what I believe in.
So man the fuck up, get your shit together and win some mother fucking political races.
