This is a post specifically for people who attended my Community class at Small Business Marketing Unleashed in Columbus Ohio.
But if you haven’t come to the class, you might find this useful too.
Here are my tips for getting involved in online communities.
- You have to participate to make it a success.
- You can’t just setup a community and sit back and wait for people to show up.
- You need to go to other communities and participate.
- Pick one or two initiatives.
- Doing too much will make you lose focus.
- Pick things that look fun to you. Otherwise, you won’t do any of them.
- Make goals.
- Setting a number of subscribers you would like is often a good goal for communities.
- Set a time frame to accomplish the goals.
- Especially initially, be conservative. Getting comfortable with your new community will take some time.
