I don’t know why I’m writing this. But then again, I am in a place in my life where I really can’t tell you why I do much of anything. It just feels like the thing to do. (It’s not right or wrong. I can’t make that complicated conclusion. I just feel like doing it.)
I think I’m inclined to write this because I’m mad at her.
DONALD TRUMP IS NOT A FASCIST.
She called him a fascist last night, and that made me mad.
If Donald Trump is a fascist, we should murder him and all his supporters. But they get all Pikachu Face if you even dare mention such a thing.
That’s how you know it’s a lie.
They are doing it in some desperate attempt to scare undecided voters into voting for her.
What kind of mindless amoeba (yes, I called you a single-celled organism) do you have to be if you haven’t decided yet? Maybe just don’t. Go eat some wings and drink some beer on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Let the adults handle this one.
Here’s a pretty good New Yorker article on the topic if you really care about this fascist debate.
But the politicians are counting on the fact that you aren’t going to study this topic in any meaningful way. Kamala and some other people you heard were important said he was a fascist, and that’s all you need.
(The summary of that article, because you more than likely won’t read it, is: it’s highly debatable because what it means to be a fascist is subjective. It depends on the time, place, and conditions of a given person. Philosopher Jan-Werner Müller, suggests Trumpism is more akin to far-right populism, which shares certain features with fascism but remains distinct. That’s where I fall in the debate if you care to know.)
Did I hate the attempt to turn the election over? Hell yes.
Did I hate January 6 because these people were misled by what turned out to be an untruth? Yes.
Was gas cheaper? Did we not get into any new wars (a very un-fascist move)? Did we have fewer people flowing over our border (something Kamala is now clamping down on)? Yes.
I’ll be forever thankful for that weirdo, Mike Pence. Against immense pressure and a hangman’s noose outside, in his role as vice president, he presided over the joint session of Congress but emphasized that his role was largely ceremonial. He issued a letter on January 6 explaining that the Constitution did not grant him the authority to unilaterally reject electors or alter the outcome of the election. He maintained that his duty was to faithfully count the certified Electoral College votes.
GOD BLESS MIKE PENCE (although I feel like even if he had succumbed to the pressure, it would have only delayed the inevitable: by all accounts, the election was fair. Joe Biden won.)
I just hate that American politics is such a high-school popularity contest. “Donald Trump is a fascist. Donald Trump lacks moral character, integrity, dignity, respect for the military, and respect for the law. He is unfit to serve as president.”
I get it. I’m not smart enough to talk about issues. I just have to hear about what a terrible person he is. It’s demeaning and condescending to the entire American population. It speaks volumes about what they think of American voters. We are too stupid to have a rational conversation. That’s generally the feeling Democrats have always had of the population. Democrats have always been the rich elite that thinks they know better than everyone else.
Donald Trump will not be the last president to think he unfairly lost an election. Hillary Clinton believed the same thing. American presidential power has got to be the most delicious seduction ever presented to a human being. We better just get used to it. Shore up the laws. Make sure they can’t thwart elections. Keep the two-term policy firmly in place. That’s what we’ve got to do.
I’m voting for Kamala Harris mostly for women’s rights. This abortion thing is ridiculous. Yes. Abortion should be rare and for really bad situations. But it should also be available. But hey, I believe assisted suicide should also be legal. So what do I know? I’m a personal rights guy. (whatever happened to Don’t tread on me, Republicans? Did you only care about that when it just affected your life? That seems pretty childish.)
Something I actually really like about Donald Trump is that he makes us all feel something. He gets us going. I like protests and uprisings. It’s cathartic and maybe it helps move things forward. I admire that energy about some far-right Conservatives. I think there are more people like that on the Right than on the Left. I think Donald Trump wakes up the Left. So I’m thankful for that.
I was actually in awe at the January 6 uprising. I really have no problem with storming the capital. I just was disheartened because those people were doing it because of something that turned out to be untrue. I felt bad for those people.
But then again, I don’t like authority. I have daddy issues. What do I know?
You aren’t wrong for voting for Donald Trump. As a leftist, I really just came here to say that. I HATE that my people look down on you as they eat the food you grow, take the healthcare you provide, and drive on the roads you build. I HATE THAT.
They look down on you. They stereotype you and demean you. They do the exact thing they accuse you of doing to minorities and immigrants (which, let’s be honest, you often are guilty of that, too.)
It turns out people are messy, ugly, and ignorant of their own biases. And that doesn’t start and stop based on political party. That’s the entire human condition. We all do it to some degree. (Do you know how many Trump hat-wearing people I see come into the homeless community to help those people? I honestly believe it’s probably more than my so-called bleeding heart, Liberal friends.)
And back to my amoeba – undecided voter – friends:
If you REALLY are still undecided, let me help:
- If you are pro-life, Vote for Trump.
- If you believe we shouldn’t tax rich people, Vote for Trump.
- If you think the economy in the last four years has been bad for you, (this is my biggest hard-to-swallow reality) Vote for Trump. (this is probably why he’ll win, NOT because Republicans are racist, immigrant haters.)
- If you like renewable energy and want SLOWLY to move away from oil, Vote for Harris.
- If you believe in women’s rights, Vote for Harris.
- If you believe America is fundamentally made of immigrants, Vote for Harris.
If you believe some things from one list and some things from another list, maybe that’s why you are struggling. I get it. The President of the United States is an impossible job. It’s impossible to do and impossible to vote for intelligently.
But, come on. You must believe in something, right?
