On page 202 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, he covers The 6 Basic Fears
They are:
The fear of poverty
The fear of criticism
The fear of ill health
The fear of loss of love of someone
The fear of old age
The fear of death
All fears, he suggests, come from one of these main fears. Other than ill health and death, are the others really that bad? The funny thing is, fear is a major contributor to ill health and death.
Fears are nothing more than states of mind.

In Buddhist philosophy, all those can be summed up into fear of suffering. They add to it two other fears that become more obvious as a person spiritually develops, fear of being self-centered, and fear of having ordinary perception (ie over dramatize situations, judgements, importance of items, etc.)
I think that these are relevant whichever religious or spiritual tradition anyone chooses.
That’s very interesting. I am a casual dabbler in Buddhism. I certainly wouldn’t call myself a Buddhist. But the philosophies really resonate with me.
Thanks for the info.
