Get on the spectrum of voluntary poverty

We in America have been so indoctrinated into the cult of Capitalism that an alternative economic philosophy seems like pure and total madness.

I am not a Communist. Not that I have anything against the communist movement. I’m not afraid of Communism as the big and mighty U.S. of A. seems to be.

I just am not convinced that the greed of overly ambitious humans can be overcome so that a healthy communist experiment could actually take hold.

While I felt compelled to make that statement, that’s not really what I’m talking about here.

I want to raise the idea of personal, self-imposed poverty.

I simply believe that one more package from Amazon is not going to be the final piece in your puzzle of personal peace and happiness. In fact, I think that as the packages build up our internal peace and happiness becomes less. The noise gets louder. The stuff adds to out anxiety. And the debt gets heavier.

I’m not telling you to give up all your possessions and become part of the van life like Jake and his dog:

I’m also not telling you not to give up all your possessions and become part of the van life like Jake and his dog.

What I’m mostly suggesting here is to become aware of how your stuff and “comfortable” life are making you feel. I believe we are so brainwashed by the American captialism dream that most of us never stop to take a step back and ask ourselves if it’s paying off like we hoped.

And all of this leads me to my ulterior and ultimate motive. I’d really like to see you get closer to the Universe and God (if that’s a word you feel comfortable using).

I believe we have a purpose for being here. But we are so caught up in the day to day grind of a capitalist system (that is entirely fabricated so a few people can get really rich) that we are being robbed of our personal journey that the universe actually wants us to be on.

Chasing stuff and money is a tricky trap. You think you need to do it. You think you want to do it. BUT I’M TELLING YOU! It’s all just a maze created by a few rich people to keep you constantly running to find a little piece of cheese. But what is really happening is that all the running you are doing is turning their giant wheel so that they make more money than even they can possibly comprehend. They are addicted to making obscene amounts of money and have gotten really good at it. And they are making the money all off of your struggling and hard work.

The reason you have no money left in your bank account is because these Capitalists have created a massive global subsistence farm where all the rest of us are convinced we must live.

But what’s worse (I don’t really care about your money), what’s worse is that in creating this elaborate trap they have also stolen your destiny. They have stolen your relationship with God and the universe. That’s the most shameful, tragic moral of this entire godforsaken story.
