Immediately Tie the Mayor’s Salary To The Median Household Income

This is a quick and easy one that I’ll do on day one as Akron Mayor.

I will make the salary of mayor double whatever the median household income is.

Want more money as mayor? Figure out how to raise the median household income in Akron.

According to City-Data the median household income in Akron for 2013 was $34,300.

That makes the Mayor’s salary $68,600.

That’s more than enough to live very comfortably in Akron. That’s also a daily reminder of what your constuents are feeling.

And most importantly, it resets the ridiculous $198,000 the mayor was making.

if a central tenant of your campaign is power to the people then why not let the voters determine the mayors compensation? Perhaps base salary is = median and then voters decide if a bonus is awarded annually?

    1. That’s a totally cool idea. I’m definitely going to consider it. At first I thought: Well, that’s cool but how am I going to pay my mortgage. But I actually live really minimally. I’m pretty sure I could live on $34k. For real! I’m going to seriously consider this.
      Thank for the idea!
